Projects
Amtrykes: The AmTryke is a therapeutic device developed and produced exclusively by AMBUCS. We make them available for physical therapy at six evaluation sites located in Champaign County, one in Gages Lake, Illinois, a site in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. We also provide them to individuals and therapists to assist children with disabilities in development of hand-feet coordination. In recent years, the AmTryke has demonstrated great success in assisting children with Autism. Several AmTryke models have been developed for adults, which provide significant therapeutic value to seniors and veterans. An AmTryke is provided upon recommendation of the individual’s therapist. Over 100 AmTrykes have been provided.
Ambucs Park: In cooperation with Urbana Park District and C-U Special Recreation, GCC AMBUCS created the areas first handicapped accessible park and playground on Eat University Avenue in Urbana. AMBUCS park contains playground equipment usable by children of all abilities. The play areas are conducive to visual and sensory enhancement. All restrooms are fully accessible and pavilions are paved with walks, accessible picnic tables, grills, and water fountains. The park is decorated by AMBUCS for the winter Holiday season.
Project Ramp Build: To date, over 300 ramps have been built by AMBUCS. The response from individuals who have received a ramp is incredible. A ramp provides a new level of independence and aloes them to get in and out of their homes with ease. Our builders need no special skills to help create a ramp, just a willingness to help. AMBUCS provides all of the labor and materials to build a ramp for individuals with disabilities who cannot afford to build a ramp on their own. In about three hours, AMBUCS can start from scratch and finish a wheelchair ramp.
